Aussies still flocking to News.com.au

The News Limited site held onto the top spot in May.

News Limited's News.com.au remained the most visited news website in May, according to Nielsen's latest Online Ratings. The site posted a unique audience of 2.894 million, followed by Ninemsn with 2.757 million, Yahoo!7 with 2.607 million and Fairfax's SMH.com.au with 2.518 million.

The Guardian and the BBC continue to rate highly with Australian audiences, with 1.099 million and 1.287 million unique users respectively. (The audience figure for The Guardian encompasses the entire site, not just the recently launched Australian arm.)

In a statement, News.com.au general manager Julian Delany said: "The online news category remains super competitive. Growing our audience and maintaining our number one ranking for May within that environment reflects growing trust and recognition of the brand as a news source by Australian consumers."

News.com.au editor Luke McIlveen said: "Being a first-rate news outlet doesn't mean being slow, predictable and boring. We’re first with the big stories, but we're not afraid to have a laugh with our audience. That's our culture at News.com.au and I hope it's shining through in the work we do. A massive thanks to all our readers for once again making us number one."
