Apple launches iPhone 5s ads, posts sales and profits hike

Sales of iPhones helped drive Apple's rise in sales and profit in the second quarter, as it sold more phones but fewer iPads than expected.

Apple posted revenue of US$45.6 billion and net profit of US$10.2 billion during the quarter, up from US$43.6 billion revenue and US$9.5 billion profit a year ago.

Sales outside of the US accounted for 66% of revenue.

Apple sold 43 million iPhones globally in the three months to 29 March - beating analysts expectations. It sold 16 million iPads in the same period – below what the market had expected.

Alongside the results, Apple launched an ad campaign in the US for its iPhone 5s device showing off its capabilities.
