Apple and ACCC at loggerheads over iPad debacle

Apple and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) have failed to come to an agreement after Apple's marketing was found to be misleading.

The ACCC wants Apple to change the name of its latest tablet, which has been marketed as iPad Wifi + 4G, because it does not work on Australia's 4G mobile data network.

In March, the ACCC accused Apple of misleading marketing. In the Federal Court, Apple agreed to withdraw advertising and to tell consumers the product was incompatible with 4G in Australia. Apple also offered refunds to customers.

However, in a mediation held yesterday, the two parties have been unable to come to an agreement regarding a name change for the product.

The two parties will return to the Federal Court in Melbourne next month.
