Adshel has appointed The Australian's deputy advertising director Matt Newcomb to the position of group sales director Australia, replacing Peter Charlton who has taken a role at DMG Radio.

Newcomb's main responsibility will be for the strategic development of media sales. He will lead a  team of over 50 sales, business development and media planning staff across the country.

Prior to his work with News Limited, Newcomb held various senior sales roles at Fairfax and in the publishing industry in the UK.

“We are pleased to welcome Matt into such a key role at Adshel,” said AdShel chief executive Rob Atkinson. “His proven track record of success through innovation, change management and inspiring leadership will be invaluable in driving our media sales and creating growth opportunities as out-of-home transforms for the future. Additionally Matt’s energy and enthusiasm make him a great cultural fit for the Adshel team.”

Newcomb said: “I’m delighted to be joining Adshel and excited about moving into the growing Outdoor category. I relish the opportunity to continue to drive the strong sales growth Adshel has experienced over the last two years, while taking advantage of the potential that technology affords out-of-home.”

Newcomb, who will be based in Sydney, begins his role on 27 August.
