Recognising Australian talent on the global stage.

The AANA is launching an awards programme to celebrate the best in Australian marketing talent and achievement globally, as part of the WFA Global Marketer Week 2014. David Droga will speak at the event to mark the opening of the conference.

It is introducing the GRAMAs, short for Great Australian Marketing Awards, to recognise Australian campaigns, marketers and products that have achieved success overseas. These include marketers who have gone on to take up global roles and marketing campaigns that began in Australia but went global.

Coca-Cola's Share a Coke campaign, which originated in Australia and went on to run across Europe, is an example of the kind of work the awards are hoping to honour.

The GRAMAs will run alongside the AANA WFA Global Marketer Conference in Sydney next year.

Sunita Gloster, CEO of AANA, said: “The Awards spotlight Australian marketing achievements on a global stage – so what better place to launch than at the AANA & WFA Global Marketer Week. It is often said, justifiably, that Australia punches above its weight in the global marketing arena. These Awards will put the spotlight on great Australian people, products and campaigns that are doing just that. We’ll celebrate the ideas, strategic leadership and marketing prowess that Australians have brought to the world.

A ceremony will take place at the Sydney Museum of Contemporary Art on 25 March as part of the cocktail party to mark the official opening of Global Marketer Week 2014.

David Droga, founder of Droga5, one of the most awarded individuals at Cannes Lions and one of Australia’s best marketing exports, according to Gloster, will speak at the event. It will be the first time Droga has spoken publicly here for almost seven years.

The awards are part of the association’s efforts to raise the profile of marketing as a profession. The GRAMAs have been developed in partnership with strategic consultants The Leading Edge.

Nigel Marsh, new chairman of The Leading Edge, told AdNews the awards are designed to attract brands whose work can compete on the global stage.

He says: "GRAMAS will reward world class excellence in successfully addressing challenges faced by clients  and marketers. It's important we celebrate Australian talent and thinking that is proven on the world stage.”

The Awards are now open for entries until February and judging will be in March 2014. More details can be found at www.aana.com.au/grama2014

Sir John Hegarty, founder of BBH, Unilever's vice president of marketing Marc Mathieu and Diageo Reserve Brands managing director James Thompson have also been announced as speakers for the Global Marketer Conference.
