Second radio ratings: KIIS up, 2GB down and Melbourne declining

Survey 2 radio ratings results for 2024 from GfK, the official provider of radio ratings for Commercial Radio Australia (CRA), have been released.

In Sydney, KIIS1065 rose to 11.0 from 10.5, while 2GB fell to 11.9 from 12.7 in 2024's start-of-year Survey 1. Smoothfm saw an incremental gain to 11.0 from 10.8. On the breakfast slot, the Kyle & Jackie O Show's share increased to 16.1 from 15.4, while 2GB's Ben Fordham dropped to 14.9 from 16.6.

In Melbourne, 3AW's share dropped from Survey 1 to 13.8 from 14.5, while GOLD 104.3 also fell to 10.9 from 11.8. The 3AW Breakfast with Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft continued their decline, dropping to 18.1 from 19.6, while The Christian O'Connell Show on GOLD 104.3 registered a below-double-digit share, finishing at 9.9 in comparison to 11.9 in Survey 1. Fifi, Fev & Nick on 101.9 The Fox saw its share rise incrementally to 11.2 from 10.8.

NOVA Entertainment CEO Peter Charlton said NOVA Entertainment has once again retained the highest total audience of any metro network which is something the audio broadcaster never takes for granted.

"Whilst the full impact of our network changes are still yet to be fully reflected in the results, we continue into 2024 committed to consistently delivering the highest quality output for our listeners and advertisers alike."

Duncan Campbell, ARN chief content officer, said it was no surprise to see The Kyle & Jackie O Show leading the
pack, #1 overall again and well ahead of their competition.

"Survey after survey, Kyle and Jackie O continue to dominate the airwaves, solidifying their position as the unrivalled leaders in breakfast radio. There really is no other show like The Kyle & Jackie O Show on air, and we can't wait for their debut in Melbourne on April 29," said Campbell.

"Congratulations to all our teams right across the country who continue to deliver these strong results, and of course, thank you to our loyal listeners for helping us maintain our status as Australia's leading audio network."

Nine Radio's head of content, Greg Byrnes, said the events of this week have highlighted the role talk radio plays in people's lives.

"On Saturday, as people sought fast and accurate information around the unfolding events in Bondi Junction, the 2GB audience spiked by 40%," he said.

"Talk content is relentless but our listeners know they can trust us. That's the reason 2GB and 3AW are the clear number one in their markets, and it's why more and more listeners are tuning to 4BC and 6PR. We don't take the responsibility lightly and thank our audience for its loyalty."
